World Cup Match Bookies Arrested In Kepong

World cup fever did only strike fans but also illegal bookies who seek to make a quick buck from the tournament, police in Kepong have managed to bust a syndicate believed to be taking bets for games played in Qatar.

Police confirmed that 4 individuals have been picked along with equipment used for the operation including modems, tablets, mobile phones, and laptops. The suspects all locals are aged between 40 to 48 and will be remanded for 3 days under the gambling act before being presented to the magistrate.

Match betting is still illegal in Malaysia although there are many online sites including official sites operated by international gaming companies accessible over here. Local gaming players have been calling for license issuance by authorities to curb illegal operators but to avail.

The World Cup 2022 is played in Qatar, the middle east for the first time and has drawn massive interest among Malaysian’s due to the appropriate timing.
