Selangor Gov’t Hopes ECRL Lines Added To Cover Southern Part Of The State

The Selangor government hopes that the proposal to have another rail line for the East Coast Rail Line Project (ECRL) to the southern part of the state can be considered by the Federal government.

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development Ng Sze Han informed the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session today (Nov 30) that the proposal has been submitted to the Federal government and the Selangor government hopes it will be considered accordingly.

According to him, despite the change of central government in the last 15th General Election (GE15), the construction of the ECRL project will continue to be implemented covering the northern line in four districts namely Gombak, Klang, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor.

The ECRL line in Selangor has been finalised and the line in the north of Selangor will be used, he said.

He said this in response to a question from Lau Weng San (PH-Banting) regarding the latest development of plans with the Central government to replace the southern line which was previously the ECRL line in Selangor involving the areas of Kuala Langat and Port Klang.

In the meantime, he said the construction of the ECRL route in Selangor covers an area of 758.47 hectares including 32 forest reserve lots in the districts of Gombak, Klang, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor for the construction of the northern line of 90.72 kilometers.

The alignment includes an elevated route, ground level and the construction of a 28.5 km long tunnel, he said in response to a question from Lee Kee Hiong (PH-Kuala Kubu Baru) who wanted to know the area of land to be taken by the Federal Government for the ECRL construction project in the district involved.
