DNB Disputes Maxis Claim That 5G Is Only Available In Putrajaya And Cyberjaya

Maxis in replying to users on its Twitter handle @MaxisListens on when 5G usage will be available on its network, replied that the 5G rolled out by Digital Nasional Berhad is only available in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya and that it will be working DNB in making the service available to its customers soon. However, DNB is not happy with that statement, claiming the service has been expanded to more areas.

In a statement posted on its website, DNB claimed Maxis had made certain erroneous statements, and that Malaysia’s 5G network includes almost all of Wilayah Persekutuan, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Selangor, and significant parts of Penang, Johor and Negeri Sembilan, as well as some parts of Malacca, Perak, Kelantan, Sabah, and Sarawak.

The sole 5G deploying company added that customers of Celcom Axiata Bhd, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, U Mobile Sdn Bhd, and YTL Communication Sdn Bhd who have signed the agreement with DNB have been enjoying retail 5G services since end-October 2022. DNB went on to add that traffic on the 5G network has surged since then, with 56,000 concurrent users utilising 146 Terabytes (TB) of capacity on 30 November 2022, or the equivalent of 77,500 hours of high-definition movies.

Rubbing in it further, DNB said Maxis customers, however, will not be able to access 5G services just yet, pending its shareholder’s approval to execute the 5G Access Agreement.
