Malaysia – EU Inks PCA Symbolising A Significant Milestone In International Relations

Malaysia and the European Union (EU) signed the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) as one of the highlights of the inaugural ASEAN -E U Commemorative Summit marking historical moment and a significant milestone in the nation’s international relations.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Dato’ Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, represented the Government of Malaysia while the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice President of the EU Council H.E. Josep Borrell Fontelles and the Czech Republic the Prime Minister / President of the EU Council H.E Petr Fiala, represented the EU and its 27 Member States, respectively.

In a release by the Foreign Affairs Ministry today (Dec 15), the PCA is the first umbrella agreement between Malaysia and the EU which provides an overarching strategic political framework, complementing and further strengthening the long-standing partnership and cooperation between Malaysia and the EU.

At the event held on Dec 14 in Brussels, Belgium, it was cited that the agreement encompasses 60 articles aimed at enhancing cooperation in wide-ranging areas including political relations, trade and investment, energy, transport, agriculture, finance, maritime and other areas through dialogue and exchange of information.

The PCA will enter into force once it has been ratified by Malaysia and the E U Member States.
