ECRL Project Not Derailed But Proceed With Haircut

Prime Minister Datuk Seri has informed parliament that the East Coast Rail Link connecting Kelantan, Terengganu to Pahang and through Selangor will be allowed to continue but with a substantial haircut.

The project was given the green light during Dato Seri Najib Razak’s administration and has been splintered with controversy including being used to bail out the former Prime Minister from the 1MDB scandal.

The overall project is estimated to cost the government RM50 billion and had been fully handed to China Communication Construction Company.

Anwar had been questioning the validity of the project especially the exorbitant cost the country will be bearing in servicing debts to finance such a large-scale infrastructure.

Since taking over as chief, Anwar reviewed the project and has agreed to proceed with an RM11.01 billion reduction.
