Weighed by Selling Pressure on Heavyweights, FBM KLCI Skidded 1.21% Lower

On the first trading day of 2023, Bursa Malaysia ended this morning trading session lower with the benchmark index FBM KLCI slid 18.03 points or -1.21% at 1,477.46 as compared to last Friday’s close of 1,495.49.

The main index was dragged by selling pressures on index-linked heavyweights. The performance of the local bourse could be influenced by the negative cue from Wall Street performance of last Friday.

At 9:00 am, the index opened lower at 1,488.54.

During the morning trading session, the index was traded in the range of 1,477.11 – 1,488.54.

On the overall market, market breadth was strongly negative, with decliners outweighed gainers 477 to 280 gainers, while 379 counters were unchanged.

Top five active counters for the morning session were MMAG Holdings, Borneo Oil, L&P Global, Citaglobal, Cypark Resources.

Top five gainers were Hextar Technologies, Ajinomoto Malaysia, Malaysian Pacific Industries, Batu Kawan, Rapid Synergy.

Whilst top five decliners were Nestle Malaysia, PETRONAS Dagangan, PETRONAS Gas, Tenaga Nasional, MISC.
