OCBC Bank Won Best Maiden Sukuk Award For Its Role In edotco RM3 Billion Sukuk

OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad together with its Islamic subsidiary OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad won the prestigious Best Maiden Sukuk Award in the Alpha Southeast Asia Annual Best Deal and Solution Awards 2022 mainly for the bank’s role as key Principal Adviser and Sustainability Structuring Adviser for edotco Group’s landmark RM3.0 billion Sukuk Wakalah programme.

The Sukuk programme was the first foray into the ringgit debt capital market by edotco, a subsidiary of Axiata Group and a regional integrated telecommunications infrastructure services company in Asia. The Sukuk programme embedded the option for issuance of sustainability Sukuk to facilitate the edotco Group’s decarbonisation journey.

The award comes on the back of a string of significant accolades in 2022 from various internationally-recognised industry award platforms, reinforcing the Bank’s leadership position in the investment banking industry in Malaysia.

It follows four other significant “best deal” awards won at the prestigious Asset Triple A Islamic Finance Awards 2022, which recognises the best Islamic deals that defined the industry in the Asia Pacific region. These included Best Sukuk for Khazanah Nasional’s USD1.0 billion Dual-Tranche Sukuk which marked the return of the country’s sovereign wealth fund in the USD Sukuk market after a 5-year hiatus.

Another award was for Best Project Finance Sukuk, which was won for the Bank’s role in the largest Sukuk programme established by the Sarawak state government of RM15 billion for financing infrastructure development and strategic investments.

OCBC Malaysia Managing Director, Senior Banker and Head of Investment Banking, Ms Tan Ai Chin said the Bank is deeply honoured for being recognised as one of the leaders in Malaysia for its holistic financial solutions encompassing loan syndication, bond market and M&A advisory.

OCBC Malaysia had earlier also won the Best Syndicated Loan of the Year by Alpha Southeast Asia, in addition to the Cross-border Deal of the Year – Malaysia by the Asian Banking & Finance Corporate & Investment Banking Awards 2022, and Telecom M&A Deal of the Year by The Asset Triple A Sustainable Infrastructure Awards 2022.
