Smart Technology In Melon Farming

The popularity of food crops has increased since the pandemic when many Malaysians started opting for healthier green and some even venturing into farming. With demand increasing, State agriculture departments and entrepreneurs have collaborated in improving farming methods with smart technology which has proved to be successful.

The Selangor Melon Farm in Sungai Besar here has successfully produced its first crop of 500 seeds since it was planted two months ago. EXCO Agriculture Modernization Ir Izham Hashim said the crops were part of the Sabak Bernam Area Development Project this year.

“This fruit is also the result of research from five seeds specially made by a local company for Selangor and that is why we named it MeloSel because it is exclusive and premium. “This is also the first location where MeloSel is planted commercially using smart farming methods by local entrepreneurs. Ir Izham said the farm will be part of the tourism activity in the near future, however, he said there needs more research to improve MeloSel cultivation because the period of time to produce this fruit is at least 60 days and for now the need is to find a way to maintain the quality of the seeds.

The fruit will be exclusive in Selangor before being marketed to other states with a set price of around RM25 per kilogram. In addition to the two types of melon seeds (crunchy and sweet), there were also two types of corn (grain and sweet) and papaya produced by Green World Genetics Sdn Bhd were launched.
