MITI Aims to Attract Investment, Explore International Business Opportunities with the Corporate Sector: Tengku Zafrul

The mission of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) is not only to attract investment to Malaysia but also to explore business opportunities for local companies internationally.

MITI minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz said the task of promoting Malaysia is not only the responsibility of the government, but also the corporate sector.

Therefore, he said, MITI’s mission to Davos this time also included agencies under the ministry such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and InvestKL in addition to government-linked investment companies (GLIC) and government-linked companies (GLC) such as Khazanah, the Employees’ Provident Fund ( EPF), Permodalan Nasional Bhd, Petronas and Sime Darby who will hold meetings and discussions with various leading companies in the world.

“We have prepared a conducive space at Malaysia House to facilitate the various discussions that have been arranged. God willing, all our efforts will bear fruit, for the sake of Malaysia,” he told Bernama here, yesterday.

The 53rd annual WEF forum which took place from Jan 16-20 brought together 2,700 leaders representing 130 countries, including 52 heads of state in the resort town of Davos, in the Alps.

The theme of the forum this year is ‘Cooperation in a Divided World: Addressing Urgent Crises, Handling Future Challenges,’ was organized in the midst of various crises that have further divided and divided the world’s geopolitical landscape.

The Malaysian delegation to the WEF for this year is led by Tengku Zafrul who is expected to participate in sessions including the cost of economic fragmentation, supply chain, transport and also ‘Living with Risk’ where he is one of the three panelists for the session.
