Bank Negara Malaysia made a surprise decision by maintaining the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) at 2.75 percent after four consecutive increases.
The OPR has been increased four times in a row since last year beginning in May, July, September and November, each of which increased by 25 basis points to 2.75 percent compared to the previous record low of 1.75 percent.
Following the retention, the range of the highest and lowest rates of the OPR are also maintained at 3.00 percent and 2.50 percent respectively, according to the central bank’s statement.
