Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli reprimanded the attitude of some restaurant and eatery traders who still refuse to lower the prices of their food and drinks, even though the price of raw materials in the market has dropped. He said the cooperation of restaurant traders and eateries is needed to balance the price of food served with raw materials as it’s important to help people increase their spending power and reduce their financial burden.
“Sometimes, people get angry when the prices of raw materials fall, electricity bills no rise yet prices of goods from retailers, restaurants and stalls do not come down. “So far, everything else shows a decrease except for buying ready-made food from restaurants and stalls, and ‘take away’ is still increasing even though the price of raw materials has decreased,” he said.
The Economic Minister said consumers also need to act more proactively against changes in the price of goods by avoiding visiting restaurants and eateries that still offer high prices for food and drink.
