Covid Cases On The Decline, Below 500 During CNY Holidays

The Ministry of Health Malaysia in its latest Covid-19 report has indicated that for week 3 of 2023, the overall number of admissions of patients to health facilities per 100,000 residents decreased by 8.6 percent.

The number of admissions of COVID-19 patients to public hospitals per 100,000 population in week 3 compared to week 2 for category 1 and 2 patients decreased by 28.6 percent; while Category 3, 4, and 5 patients, decreased by 28.6 percent. The percentage of bed occupancy for non-critical beds decreased by 2.0 percent, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds decreased by 2.0 percent. However, the percentage of COVID-19 patients requiring ventilators increased by 0.1 percent in week 3.

Cases monitored by the Center for Assessment of COVID-19 (CAC) throughout the country have also shown a decrease. Week by week comparison, the number of patient arrivals to CAC decreased by 3.3 percent; the number of new COVID-19 cases undergoing home monitoring decreased by 19.2 percent; and The number of cases referred by CAC to the hospital also decreased by 48.0 percent when compared to the previous week.

The Health Director General said the monitoring of cases during Chinese New Year also shows a low daily count of below 500, however, it reminded Malaysians to continue practicing SOP’s like avoiding crowded places and wearing masks where possible.
