Asian Bourses Mostly Higher Led by Hong Kong’s HSI Leaped 2.37% Higher, Hit 11-Month High on the First Trading Day of Rabbit Year

Kuala Lumpur, January 26 – Bursa Malaysia ended in a mild negative territory on Thursday with the bell-weathered FBM KLCI fell slightly lower by 1.06 points or -0.07% at 1,498.39. The main index stayed almost unchanged amid a lack of catalysts with some markets still on holiday.

Whilst Australian stock market closed today for Australian Day holiday and China’s Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets still closed for Chinese New Year holiday.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index hopped to eleven- month high on the first trading day of Year of Rabbit by 2.37% higher to close at 22,566.78. The index was buoyed by tech stocks. The Hang Seng Tech Index leaped 4% and closed above 4700 point level. Some of the top gainers on the HKSE today are Xiaomi, Tencent, PetroChina, CNOOC, China Mobile, HSBC.

While Japan’s Nikkei 225 index inched lower by 0.12% to 27,362.75 as the investors stay cautious amid the release of corporate earnings worldwide and ahead of the United States Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,497.41. The index fluctuated between 1,494.03- 1,497.88

** 565 counters are gainers, 431 counters are unchanged, while 359 counters are decliners.

** Total volume of 3.751 billion shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 2.029 billion

** The Top 5 Gainers: HEXTECH (27.48, +3.16); MPI (34.00, +0.28); KLK (21.56, +0.28); HSI-CL4 (0.765, +0.235); F&N (24.08, +0.18)

** The Top 5 Losers: HEIM (26.68, -1.16); PETDAG (22.70, -0.30); CARLSBG (23.18, -0.26); HSI-HKA (0.11, -0.215); AJI (14.00, -0.16)

** The Top 5 Active: ATAIMS (0.395, +0.10); VELESTO (0.225, +0.005); CYPARK (0.96, +0.12); MYEG-C4D (0.095, -0.015); SAPNRG (0.05, 0.00)

Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) rose 24.90 points or +0.74% to 3,377.67; Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index (HSI) leaped 522.13 points or 2.37% at 22,566.78; Japan’s Nikkei 225 index shed 32.26 points or -0.12% at 27,395.75; Korea’s Kospi Index gained 40.08 points or +1.65% at 2,468.65.
