BNP Paribas Asset Management Appoints Daniel Chong As Malaysia CEO

BNP Paribas Asset Management announced the appointment of Daniel Choong as the firm’s Malaysia Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who will succeed Angelia Chin-Sharpe, who was relocated to Singapore last August following her appointment as the firm’s Singapore CEO.  

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Daniel will report to Angelia. As the Malaysia CEO, he will be tasked to accelerate and strengthen the firm’s local business interests, while driving BNPP AM’s sustainable solution offerings across the market’s client groups.

Daniel is armed with over 26 years of experience in financial services and the investment management industry; and an excellent knowledge of Institutional client segments across conventional and Islamic businesses.  He has held senior roles across financial firms in Singapore and Malaysia, including ABN AMRO Asset Management (Singapore), and Nomura Islamic Asset Management Sdn. Bhd (Malaysia).  He was most recently Managing Director / Board of Director Head of Distribution for abrdn Malaysia Sdn. Bhd where he oversaw the overall management of the firm’s local set up; and the Business Development team across the Institutional and Wholesale client segments for Malaysia and part of South East Asia.  

Commenting on the appointment, Angelia said: “Daniel’s experience in leading and working across asset management firms in Malaysia and South East Asia enables him to have an acute understanding of business development across markets in this region.  He will be an invaluable addition to the management team as we further cement our position as the sustainable investor for a changing world,” added Angelia

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Economics and Finance from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia.  He was also a participant in the Malaysia National Key Economic Area (NKEA) labs for the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) in 2010, an initiative championed by the Malaysian Prime Minister
