HR Minister Dismisses Randstad’s 20% Wage Jump If Change Job Report

Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar has dismissed the 2023 Job Market and Salary Trends Report published by Randstad which states that wages of Malaysian workers are expected to rise as high as 20 percent for those who change their jobs in three sectors.

The report mentions those working in sectors like technology, manufacturing, and construction and change jobs will possibly see a pay hike. According to Randstad the study sample involved 2,524 respondents who represented a company with over 1,200 employees. V Sivakumar said the report does not describe the entire employment sector in Malaysia and can cause confusion when setting the current minimum wage rate in the country.

The Miniter further clarified that the revision to the current minimum wage as well as the setting of the appropriate new minimum wage rate will be using a formula agreed upon by three stakeholders namely Employers, Employees and the Government. Based on section 25(1) of the National Wage Consultation Council Act (MPGN) 2011 [Act 732], the current minimum wage rates in force will be reviewed every two years and the review involves the collection of primary data obtained from engagement sessions and distribution of survey forms as well as data analysis secondary involving wages and current socioeconomic indicators.
