7 Roads Closed Near Batu Caves For Thaipusam

The Gombak District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said seven roads around the Batu Caves area, will be closed from midnight tonight until February 8 to ensure traffic is smooth throughout the Thaipusam festival which begins at 10:00 a.m.

The closure of the roads are Kampung Melayu Batu Caves traffic light intersection; turn off from the direction of the Middle Ring Highway 2 (MRR2) to Batu Caves Temple and Old Batu Caves Temple to the main entrance of Batu Caves Temple. “In addition, the intersection of three traffic lights in front of the Shell Batu Caves gas station; the intersection of SBC 8 Road or Old Batu Caves Road; The MRR2 track from Sri Gombak leads to Jalan Perusahaan Batu Caves and Jalan Perusahaan leads to Kuil Batu Caves,” he said.

Alternative routes suggested by the police will be updated through the Facebook social media platform of the Gombak District Police. The Chief advised road users to use alternative routes and public transport to avoid traffic congestion,” TO ensure the event is organised without any incidents, a total of 1,888 officers and policemen from various departments throughout the Selangor contingent will be on duty.

The Thaipusam procession will start from Tun H S Lee to Batu Caves at 10 pm tomorrow and is expected to arrive at 3pm this Saturday, but the itinerary depends on the weather and traffic conditions. It is estimated that two million visitors from within and outside the country will visit the Batu Caves Temple for the period from January 15 to February 15.

Visitors are advised to park in permitted areas and make sure their vehicles are locked, while motorcycle owners are advised to add extra locks.
