Employers Are Responsible To Ensure Employees Given Adequate Training, Says Sivakumar

The National Dual Training System (NDTS) training program conducted by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) is in line with national policies to further empower Technical and Vocational Education and Training or TVET. Through TVET it has an employment direction with a major emphasis on industrial practice. It aims to produce a competent workforce in certain fields with an emphasis on practical components, skills, psychomotor and exposure to training in the industry.

“TVET program graduates are able to master the knowledge and practical skills better than academic program graduates. This advantage has the potential to open up more job opportunities and attract employers to offer jobs to TVET graduates,” said Minister of Human Resources, Sivakumar Varatharaju at KTM Academy’s 5th Convocation today (February 9).

“I also call on the industry in Malaysia to cooperate and join hands with the Ministry of Human Resources (KSM) through the Skills Development Department (JPK) and training agencies under the Ministry of Human Resources (KSM) to offer TVET training to Malaysians to facilitate them get job opportunities in local companies as well as in multinational companies,” added Sivakumar.

TVET trainees need to be given the space and opportunity to engineer the use of robotics technology, internet network objects (IOT), artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, image processing, software, and mobile communication systems in line with mainstream changes.

It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that their employees are given adequate training by providing them with the latest information and technologies to improve the productivity and socio-economics of employees. The steps taken by KTMB through the approach of the National Dual Training System (NDTS) are in line with the mission and vision of the Ministry of Human Resources (KSM) and should be given encouragement and stimulation to continue intensifying and multiplying programs like this.
