Several major roads in the nation’s capital will be closed and diverted in stages this Sunday to make way for the Grand Fondo New York (GFNY) 2023 bicycle race.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said the program will start at Dataran Merdeka at 6am and go through several streets around the city center of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor and will end back at Dataran Merdeka.

He said that among the roads that will be closed and diverted are Jalan Raja, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Tun Razak towards the Sultan Iskandar Highway.

“In addition, Jalan Kuching to Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Maharajalela to Jalan Loke Yew, Billion Roundabout to MRR2, MRR2 to Taman Metropolitan to the Selangor border, Jalan Kuching from Batu Caves Roundabout to Segambut Roundabout and Kuching Road to Dato’ Onn Roundabout and to Freedom Square again.”

“The road in question will be closed and diverted from 6.30 am in stages until 9 am by the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT),” he said in a statement today.

Azmi said it will then be reopened in stages from 9am to 11.30am.

“People are advised to use public transport services or avoid using the closed roads and obey the instructions of the police officers on duty to ensure that traffic management runs smoothly,” he said.

He said seven senior officers and 103 junior police officers from JSPT will be mobilized to carry out traffic control assignments throughout the program.

GFNY 2023 will start at 6 am for the registration and release of 1,200 participants from home and abroad will be done at 7 am involving two categories of professional and semi-professional levels, namely 140 kilometers (km) and 70 km.
