Langkawi Port Collaborates with CelcomDigi to Enhance its Smart Port Management

Langkawi Port signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CelcomDigi as part of its smart port digitalisation initiatives. This partnership will see both companies working together to enhance the port’s operational excellence and safety through the use of end-to-end AI-driven safety and security solutions (ASAS).

As safety and security is vital in ensuring the port operates efficiently, ASAS enables Langkawi Port to run vehicle analytics at the port’s entrance and jetty areas, as well as setting up a smart digital boundary control that provides a digitalised view of the port landscape for general surveillance through the use of geo-fencing and PTZ cameras.

Additionally, both companies are also exploring further digital IoT opportunities in cloud, cybersecurity, and total visitor management solutions, among others.

The MoU was signed between Langkawi Port’s Chairman, Nasaruddin Abdul Muttalib and CelcomDigi’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Afizulazha Abdullah at a ceremony held in Kuah,
Langkawi.

“Transforming into a smart port is a necessity. As we’ve seen traffic and usage of the port increasing significantly in recent years, leveraging technology and digital solutions to secure, automate, and optimise our operations will help ensure that we continue to provide quality services to our customers. We’re pleased to continue collaborating with a market leader like CelcomDigi as our trusted technology and digital solutions enabler, to support us in delivering on our commitment to provide our customers an efficient gateway to Langkawi,” Nasaruddin said.

Echoing his comments, Afizulazha reiterated the company’s support in strengthening the collaboration, which started off in 2019 when both companies first came together to explore 5G use cases for smart port management.

“We’re excited to achieve this milestone together, from exploring pilot projects to running proof of concepts, and have now completed the implementation, with more to come, as the nation progresses towards 5G. To this end, we’re ready with the right expertise and resources to help drive langkawi Port’s digitalisation growth, tapping into CelcomDigi’s combined capabilities in innovation and strengthened network. We look forward to realising more value from this partnership while supporting the digitalisation of more ports in Malaysia,” he added.
