UMW, TM One Launch Hybrid Cloud Solutions To Spearhead UMW’s Digitisation Journey

UMW Group’s Hybrid Cloud Solutions, a collaboration with TM One was officially launched recently. Back in September 2022, UMW IT Services Sdn. Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the UMW Group and TM One, the enterprise and public sector arm of TM had formally signed an agreement to establish a collaboration on hybrid cloud solutions.

The launch of Hybrid Cloud marks a step forward in the UMW Group’s digital transformation, through consolidation and improvement of its current data centre architecture. Furthermore, it complements the modernisation process of the Group’s various applications and supports its efforts to improve operations across its Strategic Business Units.

The Go-live event were jointly launched by Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, President & Group CEO UMW Holdings Berhad and Dato’ Imri Mokhtar, Group CEO TM, alongside senior management from both organisations.

Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali remarked, “Digital transformation is critical for Malaysian businesses to maintain and sustain competitiveness, particularly those involved in manufacturing activities like UMW and is essential to the country’s growth. This Hybrid Cloud initiative is pivotal to the UMW Group’s digital transformation journey, as it provides a solid foundation for further advancement of UMW’s IT and digital capabilities and is in line with our CREST@2021 strategic framework aspirations.”

“Hybrid Cloud enables the UMW Group to tap onto TM One’s innovative solutions, to optimise efficiency in managing data – enhancing security, reliability, scalability as well as offer better cost management. In addition, hybrid cloud offers the UMW Group better flexibility, reliability, agility and improved data security to support the growth of our businesses,” he added.

Moving forward, the UMW Group will continue to leverage on TM One’s digital expertise on its ongoing IR 4.0 initiatives, including OEE Smart Manufacturing and Intra-Logistics Smart Inventory to improve operational efficiency, reduce cost and enhance worker safety. Furthermore, the UMW Group is also working with TM One on fiberisation and 5G network at the UMW High Value Manufacturing Park in Serendah, in line with the current and future business requirement for high-speed connectivity to accommodate automation and Big Data analytics in their operations.

Looking further ahead, UMW believes that there is great potential for technologies such as artificial intelligence, IoT and others to be developed and applied into new innovative and sustainable solutions in the mobility as well as the manufacturing domains. Hence, the UMW Group will continue to explore relevant opportunities that it can work together with TM One in this space.
