DUKE Second Highway Selected For POC Trial, Adopts Open Payment System

Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) has joined the fray in offering an open payment system at all its toll plazas, this was confirmed by Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi who said the agreement was reached as a result of discussions between the Ministry and DUKE concessionaires.

With the latest highway, the total number of highways that will be involved in the implementation of the open payment system now is 12 highways and are expected to start in September 2023.

He said the highways involved included Sungai Besi Highway, Baru Pantai Highway, Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway, Guthrie Corridor Highway, Penang Bridge, Butterworth-Kulim Highway, Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP), West KL Traffic Distribution Scheme (SPRINT), Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), SMART Tunnel and Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX)

DUKE Highway has also been selected as the second location for the implementation of the Proof of Concept (POC) after the Sungai Besi Highway to evaluate the Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) system before it is implemented on all highways in the country. “As is well known, the implementation of this open toll payment system is an initial preparation for the transition towards MLFF before implementation fully phased by the third quarter of 2024 at the latest. “This effort is expected to provide opportunities for the government, concession companies and parties involved to identify and resolve all issues that can hinder the smooth implementation of this MLFF later,” he said.

Nanta said at this point, the implementation of the open payment system, POC and MLFF is still on schedule and his ministry is actively working to ensure that all plans can be successfully completed.
