UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei Unveils Academy To Foster Sustainable Business Development

UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) Academy was officially launched by Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Saraswathy Kandasami.

The UNGCMYB Academy aims to be a leading provider of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and corporate sustainability capacity building programs for businesses in Malaysia and Brunei. With a team of experienced trainers, facilitators and industry experts, the academy is dedicated to delivering engaging and impactful learning experiences that advance business resilience and sustainability performance.

The UNGCMYB Academy designs bespoke training workshops to meet the specific needs of participating companies and the broader private sector. It will further offer three signature programs to build sustainability capabilities across Malaysia and Brunei:

1/ ESG Start Program for SMEs
2/ Certified Sustainability Manager Program with School of Business – Monash University Malaysia
3/ Certified Sustainability Executive Program with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

UNGCMYB signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) during the launch event including one with Universiti Malaya, and another with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The event was attended by Karima El Korri, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam, as well as industry leaders, sustainability experts, and media.

In her speech, Saraswathy stressed the importance of integrating sustainable practices into business strategy, and the role of ESG and sustainability upskilling in Malaysia’s transition to a more sustainable future.

“The incorporation of sustainability practices in businesses is crucial for the growth and development of our economy. I encourage corporate and business owners to seize the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of sustainability practices and integrate them into their organizations by taking advantage of knowledge providers like the UNGCMYB Academy,” said Saraswathy Kandasami.

Saraswathy also commended the UNGCMYB Academy for its efforts in providing comprehensive and innovative sustainability programs to its members and clients. With seven years to deliver on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, it is critical that Malaysian businesses take the actions needed to ensure a sustainable future for the nation.

The UNGCMYB Academy has been launched with the support of Eco World Development Group Bhd (EcoWorld Malaysia), Tata Consultancy Services Malaysia (TCS Malaysia), and Rantau PR Sdn Bhd.
