Malaysia’s Natural Rubber Production Drops in July 2023, Exports Rise, Prices Fluctuate: DOSM

Natural Rubber (NR) production decreased by 4.5 per cent in July 2023 (28,533 tonnes) as compared to June 2023 (29,867 tonnes). Year-on-year comparison showed that the production of NR decreased by 24.6 per cent (July 2022: 37,843 tonnes). Production of NR in July 2023 for Malaysia was mainly contributed by smallholders sector (82.5%) as compared to estates sector (17.5%). 

Total stocks of NR in July 2023 decreased by 9.9 per cent to 143,840 tonnes as compared to 159,718 tonnes in June 2023. Rubber processors factory contributed 87.9 per cent of the stocks followed by rubber consumers factory (11.9%) and rubber  estates (0.2%). 

Exports of Malaysia’s NR amounted to 51,785 tonnes in July 2023, increased 6.0 per cent as against June 2023 (48,848 tonnes). P.R. China remained as the main destination for NR exports which accounted 42.8 per cent of total exports in July 2023 followed by Germany (9.5%), Pakistan (4.4%), U.S.A (3.3%) and Brazil (2.2%). 

Analysis of the average monthly price showed that Concentrated Latex recorded a decrease of 1.5 per cent (July 2023: 490.18 sen per kg; June 2023: 497.70 sen per kg) while Scrap decreased by 2.2 per cent (July 2023: 471.14 sen per kg; June 2023: 481.91 sen per kg). Prices for all Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R) decreased between 1.5 per cent to 2.3 per cent.
