Empowering Women In Tech: She-Tech Asia Forum 2023 At WCIT/IDECS 2023

The World Innovation & Technology Congress/Sarawak International Digital Economy Conference 2023 (WCIT/IDECS 2023) will be bringing something different with She-Tech Asia Forum 2023 which will be held for the first time, as a curtain raiser to the prestigious event.

She-Tech is organised by the Sarawak Government to empower women in the region thus enabling 30 percent of women to be actively involved in Sarawak’s technology industry by 2030.

Themed ‘Recognising the Power of Women in Technology’, it will be attended by leaders and professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and digital fields, corporate executives who focus on diversity, equality and inclusion as well as leaders and professionals in STEM and digital, corporate executive focused on diversity, equity and inclusion and advocate for women’s empowerment and fair representation.

The founder of TIMELESS Emma Yang will deliver the keynote speech entitled ‘Changing The World with Code’ (Changing The World with Code) as soon as the opening ceremony was completed by the Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Julaihi Narawi.

After Yang’s keynote speech, the forum started with the first topic to be discussed which is ‘Pioneing Technology Leadership: Asian Perspective vs. Global Trends in Empowering Women for Future Success’ (Pioneering Tech Leadership: Asian Insights vs. Global Trends in Empowering Women for Future Success).

In this forum, the Non-Executive Chairman of Cradie Fund Sdn Bhd Datuk Yvonne Chia as the chairman while the panel members consisted of Microsoft ASEAN Regional Director of Corporate Affairs, External Affairs and Legal Dr Jasmine Begum and the Founder & Head of the Connected Women Special Project Gina Romero with the President & Founder Together with Women in Blockchain Asia/Embolden Ventures Ida Mok.

This is followed by the second topic, ‘Third World Problems, First World Solutions’. This time the panelists consisted of CEO & Co-Founder of POD Nasia Ismadi, Founder & Head of Special Project Connected Women Gina Romero and CEO & Founder of HER Planet Earth & Investors for Climate Christine Amour-Levar.

She-Tech Asia Forum 2023 continues with the ‘Panel Discussion: How to Get Start’ (Panel Discussion: How to Get Start) which features panelists such as Recommend Group Co-Founder & CEO Jes Min Lua and Women in Blockchain President & Co-Founder Asia/Embolden Ventures Ida Mok.

The panel consists of IBM Malaysia Managing Director Catherine Lian, ASEAN CIO Association & Bond Holdings VP & Chief Strategy Officer Dr Carrine Teoh and MAXIS Chief Information Officer Ng May Ching will discuss the topic of ‘Tech Careers’.

The She-Tech Forum continued after the lunch break with the topic being discussed ‘Young Disruptors’. Founder of So This is My Why? Wong Ling Yoh and Music Producer, Multi-Instrumentalist Singer-Songwriter Belle Sisoski will detail it.

The second panel discussion titled ‘How Do We Pitch’ with panelists consisting of 1337 Ventures Head of Marketing Shannon Chow, CEO & Co-Founder of ATA Plus Sdn Bhd Elain Lockman and Founder of Avana Yienyee Soh.

Mogul founder & CEO Tiffany Pham will deliver the closing keynote titled ‘She Mogul’. Followed by a presentation by the Minister of Women, Children and Community Welfare Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah entitled ‘Pledge & Bellina Roadmap’.

WCIT/IDECS 2023 is the world’s leading technology event that will last for three days (October 4-6, 2023) at the Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) and will be attended by more than 10,000 participants from more than 80 countries, about 100 speakers and more than 100 exhibitors.

WCIT/IDECS 2023 brings two dynamic themes: ‘Delivering on the Promise of the Digital Era: Innovation and Technology Driving Economic Prosperity, Social Inclusion and Environmental Sustainability’.

While the second theme is ‘Promoting the Digital Economy for Sustainable Development’.

This prestigious event is a massive gathering of the technology industry and is sure to offer unparalleled opportunities to explore the forefront of cutting-edge trends, technologies and business models that are shaping the future of innovation and sustainable growth.

For the record IDECS 2023 is the sixth time it has been held after the inaugural edition was held in April 2017.

It is understood that the WCIT/IDECS2023 collective exhibition will feature some of the most interesting and world-class innovations, including artificial intelligence (AI), smart cities, robotics, autonomy, financial technology (fintech), food technology (foodtech) and space technology (spacetech).

All of them aim to drive economic prosperity, social inclusion and environmental sustainability.
