5G network services have reached 70.2 percent coverage in populated areas as of September 30, 2023.
The Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil said, as many as 5,873 5G sites have also been ready to be developed until that period.
He said that the figure shows that Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) is actively implementing the 5G network with the target of completing 7,509 5G sites nationwide, with 80 percent coverage in populated areas.
“Accordingly, for the total number of subscriptions, a total of 2.49 million subscriptions were recorded, equivalent to a 7.4 percent penetration rate.
“So far six mobile service providers have offered commercial 5G plans.
“And for the information of the Honorable Titiwangsa (Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani), on August 31, the government announced the Rahmah 5G package.
“I am pleased to inform you, within a month between August 31, until the end of September. There are 50,991 people who have subscribed to Rahmah’s 5G package,” he said during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said this in response to a question from Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani [BN- Titiwangsa] who asked about the latest development of 5G network services in Malaysia.
