PMX Assures Germany Of Positive Engagement With China

In a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim affirmed Malaysia’s commitment to constructive engagement with China while safeguarding its sovereignty and interests.

Anwar highlighted Malaysia’s engagement with China, emphasising the importance of maintaining good relations while addressing any challenges arising from China’s growing influence, including concerns over the South China Sea. He underscored the significance of dialogue to navigate regional dynamics effectively.

Acknowledging China as Malaysia’s top trading partner globally, Anwar emphasised the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries this year, showcasing the enduring partnership.

Regarding the Ukraine conflict, both leaders concurred on the need for Russia to cease aggression and pursue a peaceful resolution, recognising the widespread ramifications on trade and economic development, extending even to Asia.

The dialogue reflects Malaysia’s diplomatic approach, prioritising engagement and sovereignty while navigating complex regional dynamics.
