Where Is Our Govt On Supporting Digital Innovation?

The Ministry of Communications, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with telecommunications companies, today celebrated the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2024. The event was launched by the Minister of Communications, YB Fahmi Fadzil, at IMAGO Shopping Mall, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The government, in a statement from MCMC today (May 17) said that they will continue to support various initiatives to drive and strengthen digital development.

This includes providing connectivity and high-speed Internet access to citizens under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA), implementing 5G technology, and installing Starlink satellite devices in rural areas without Internet access.

This year’s WTISD theme, “Sustainable Development of Digital Innovation,” aligns with the government’s commitment to empower the community by bridging the digital divide and accelerating the country’s economic development towards sustainable growth.

WTISD is an annual event officially celebrated on May 17 to commemorate the anniversary of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the first Telegraph Convention in Paris in 1865.

WTISD 2024 is supported by Allo, CelcomDigi, Maxis, REDtone, Telekom Malaysia (TM), U Mobile, YES, Sabah Net, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), and the National Information Distribution Center (NADI).
