PM Anwar Meets Singapore’s Lawrence Wong: Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong today to explore ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Wong arrived in Malaysia yesterday for a two-day working visit at Anwar’s invitation. This visit marks Wong’s first official trip to Malaysia since he was sworn in as Prime Minister on May 15.

Accompanied by his wife, Loo Tze Lui, Wong was welcomed by Anwar at the Seri Perdana Complex, the official residence of the Malaysian Prime Minister, at 1 pm. Following their arrival, the two leaders held a four-eye meeting and shared a lunch together.

The meeting was also attended by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir and Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin.

In 2023, Malaysia and Singapore were each other’s second-largest global trading partners. Singapore was also Malaysia’s largest trading partner among ASEAN countries, with total trade valued at RM363.13 billion (US$79.60 billion).
