U Mobile Taps eDotco For 5G Expansion

U Mobile and EDOTCO have announced a strategic partnership aimed at expediting the rollout of the second 5G network in Malaysia. This collaboration supports the government’s dual network model for 5G deployment.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today confirms U Mobile’s commitment to a rapid and cost-efficient deployment by leveraging EDOTCO’s extensive tower infrastructure and expertise. Under the MoU, EDOTCO will grant U Mobile access to its tower sites, resources, and expedited site delivery to facilitate the 5G rollout.

The partnership will focus on developing a streamlined process using AI and data analytics to identify optimal tower locations and structures. This will lead to faster site acquisition and approvals, enhancing the efficiency of the 5G network expansion.

Additionally, U Mobile and EDOTCO will discuss commercial arrangements for infrastructure needs, including site upgrades and indoor coverage, aiming to provide a cost-effective and competitive solution for the 5G rollout.

The partnership builds on a decade-long relationship between the two companies, with U Mobile being EDOTCO’s first commercial customer outside the Axiata Group since its establishment in 2012. U Mobile has recently renewed its lease with EDOTCO and is also working on a site consolidation plan to improve network aesthetics and reduce operational costs.
