Dewan Rakyat To Focus On Targeted Diesel Subsidy, ASEAN Chairmanship

The targeted diesel subsidy and Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN Chairmanship are among the key topics at the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Wednesday.

According to the Order Paper published on Parliament’s website, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) will question the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister about the implementation mechanism of the targeted fuel subsidy policy under the Subsidised Diesel Control System. He seeks assurance that the subsidy will not disrupt the economic chain, potentially increasing the price of goods and affecting the M40 and B40 groups.

Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH-Gombak) will ask the Foreign Minister to outline the government’s preparations for Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025 and the goals for this tenure. Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan (PN-Permatang Pauh) will request information from the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister regarding the number of fraudulent Umrah and Haj cases from 2019 to the present and the actions taken against agencies offering fraudulent packages.

Lee Chean Chung (PH-Petaling Jaya) will inquire about the Science, Technology, and Innovation Ministry’s role in enhancing the country’s food safety and security through technology and innovation. Additionally, Zahari Kechik (PN-Jeli) will ask the Defence Minister for the latest status on re-implementing the National Service Training Programme.

The Dewan Rakyat sitting will also include a debate on the Auditor-General’s Report Series 2 2024. The session will feature the first reading of the Personal Data Protection (Amendment) Bill 2024.

The 15-day second meeting of the third session of the 15th Parliament will continue until July 18.
