UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has assured that those arrested for participating in the riots following a tragic stabbing attack in Southport will face swift justice, with sentences expected by the end of the week.
The unrest erupted after a stabbing incident at a children’s dance club on July 29, which left three minors dead and several others injured. In the wake of the attack, more than 400 protesters have been detained.
Addressing the issue, Starmer told Sky News, “I expect substantive sentencing before the end of this week. That should send a very powerful message to anybody involved, either directly or online, that you are likely to be dealt with within a week and nobody, but nobody should be involving themselves in this disorder.”
The riots were fueled by far-right protesters reacting to unconfirmed reports that the attacker was a refugee. However, it was later confirmed that the perpetrator was a Welsh-born boy of Rwandan descent.
This decisive action by the government aims to curb any further disorder and reassure the public of a firm stance against such violence and unrest.
