From 12.01am onwards, users of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) passing through the Banting toll plaza will enjoy free toll access. This exemption is part of the celebrations for the 67th National Day and marks the first anniversary of the MyJalan initiative by the government.
Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi clarified that the toll-free offer applies exclusively to the WCE Section 1 highway at the Banting interchange. Other tolls connected to this highway are not included in this exemption. The toll waiver will remain in effect until 11.59pm on September 29.
Nanta highlighted that the newly opened 12.5km stretch of highway connecting Jalan Dengkil-Banting to the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) is expected to stimulate economic growth in southern Selangor, particularly in Kuala Langat. The WCE’s link to the SKVE provides Banting residents with improved access to major southern Klang Valley cities such as Putrajaya, Bangi, and Kajang, thereby enhancing their quality of life.
The minister noted that the WCE Section 1 is seeing active development, with various projects underway, including SME precincts, industrial hubs, and world-class logistics facilities. This development is set to bolster the logistics network, particularly aiding the transportation of goods from major ports like Port Klang and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Nanta expressed optimism about the progress of the remaining sections of the highway, with an expectation for Section 2 to be completed by the end of the year. He also mentioned that the concessionaire anticipates around 10,000 vehicles per day using the highway once fully operational.
