Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the civil service to swiftly implement administrative reforms aimed at elevating government productivity levels to 95%.
Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Department’s monthly assembly, Anwar acknowledged the commendable performance of the civil service but emphasised the need for further improvement.
“We can expect September to be the month when reforms will be implemented more effectively,” the Prime Minister said.
He highlighted ongoing issues within the civil service, particularly the unsatisfactory merging of agencies and departments, which has resulted in overlapping roles and inefficiencies.
Anwar also expressed concern over the reports he received from department heads, director-generals, and unit heads, pointing out the sluggishness and negligence of some officers. “What we are asking for now is the immediate execution of some of these reform measures,” he urged.
To address these issues, Anwar plans to discuss further steps with newly appointed Chief Secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Director-General of Civil Service Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.
Drawing on Islamic teachings, Anwar stressed the importance of striving for continuous improvement and not settling for mediocrity.
He questioned whether the current productivity level, which has risen from 70% to 85%, could be pushed even higher. “Why not 95%?” he asked, encouraging the civil service to aim for maximum productivity.
