The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Malaysia in Beirut, is closely monitoring the situation in Lebanon following recent attacks in Beirut and escalating cross-border clashes in the southern region. The safety of Malaysians residing in the country is a top priority for the Ministry, with officials ensuring regular communication with the Malaysian community there.
As per the Embassy’s records, 23 Malaysians are currently registered in Lebanon. Fortunately, all individuals have been reported safe amidst the unrest. However, in light of the ongoing volatility, Malaysians in Lebanon are urged to remain vigilant, prioritise their security, and consider relocating to safer areas. The Ministry also advises those feeling unsafe to consider returning to Malaysia voluntarily.
Due to the heightened risks, Wisma Putra strongly recommends that Malaysians defer any travel plans to Lebanon until the situation stabilises. The Embassy is also in close contact with Malaysian peacekeepers under the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) 850-11, serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), ensuring the safety of the deployed personnel remains under UNIFIL coordination.
The Ministry continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as necessary. Malaysians are encouraged to stay informed and heed any advice from local authorities and the Embassy.
