Heavy, non-stop rain has forced the temporary closure of Lawas Airport’s runway, Malaysia Airports announced on social media.
A notice has been issued, with the runway expected to remain closed until Dec 23.
However, officials confirmed that the terminal remains open, and passengers are advised to check with airlines for updated flight schedules.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will reopen the runway once it is safe.
This is not the first time the airport has faced flooding as it was previously closed from Sept 17 to 19 due to flash floods, resulting in the cancellation of all flights.
Located near the Lawas River, the airport is frequently vulnerable to flash floods during prolonged heavy rainfall.
