Gains Concentrated In Defensives As Selling Pressure Hits Property And Tech

Bursa Malaysia ended the June 9 session on a mixed-to-weaker tone, with gains concentrated in a handful of defensive and semiconductor-linked counters, while broader selling pressure weighed on property, utilities, and selected industrial stocks.

Nestlé (M) Bhd led the gainers, rising RM2.44 to RM94.44 on modest volume, supported by continued defensive buying interest.

Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd followed, gaining RM1.30 to RM46.80, while Ajinomoto (M) Bhd added RM1.06 to RM15.48 as food-related counters attracted selective accumulation.

Also among the gainers, Concrete Engineering Products Bhd surged RM0.91 to RM4.90, and Vitrox Corp Bhd rounded out the top gainers, climbing 42 sen to RM7.16 on active trading.

On the downside, selling pressure was most pronounced in property-linked and high-volume speculative counters.

Tanco Holdings Bhd led the losers, plunging 32 sen to RM0.80 on exceptionally heavy volume of 779.6 million shares, underscoring continued retail-driven liquidation.

FACB Industries Bhd slipped 19 sen to RM1.66, while Petronas Gas Bhd eased 18 sen to RM17.32 amid mild profit-taking in utilities. Sunway Bhd fell 12 sen to RM5.13, and Chin Teck Plantations lost 10 sen to RM10.90, rounding out the top five losers.

Overall, market sentiment remained cautious, with selective strength in defensive and semiconductor-related counters offset by persistent weakness in property and broader cyclical sectors.
