PAS Splits Ways With Bersatu Amid Election Fever

PAS has officially ended its political cooperation with Bersatu, marking a major shift within the opposition bloc as speculation over upcoming elections intensifies.

PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the decision was made during a Special Central Working Committee meeting held today after considering reports, studies and current assessments of the relationship between the two parties.

He said the move also formalises the decision reached by the PAS Syura Ulama Council on June 2, which reviewed the policy, legal and public interest aspects of the party’s political cooperation under the principle of Muslim unity.

“The decision was made after taking into account current developments and evaluations concerning the relationship between PAS and Bersatu,” he said.

The announcement comes amid growing uncertainty surrounding the future of the opposition coalition and heightened political activity ahead of potential electoral contests.

On June 2, PAS Syura Ulama Council secretary Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh said the council had taken serious note of the internal crisis and conflicts within Bersatu, which it viewed as having a negative impact on Perikatan Nasional.
