New cases shoot up to 84, emergence of a new cluster

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has announced that 84 new positive Covid-19 cases have been identified.

This marks a slight increase after two consecutive days of a downward trend.

There have also been another death recorded bringing total number of deaths from the outbreak in the country to 89.

The health ministry has also stated that a new cluster has emerged involving students who returned from Indonesia recently.

“A new cluster has been detected at the international entrance where positive cases are detected among Malaysians return from Indonesia via the Kuala Airport Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) on April 16,” said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“The cluster comprises 43 students returning from Temboro, which is one place which has been declared a red zone in Magetan province, Indonesia,” he further added.

According to the DG, 34 out of the group are currently quarantined in Malacca while another nine are in Kuala Lumpur.

Total confirmed cases are currently at 5,389 while 95 new recoveries bring total number of recovered to 3,197.
