MMU inks MoU with 6Biz Academy to further data science and analytics programmes

Multimedia University (MMU) has sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 6Biz Academy (6Biz) to collaborate in strengthening efforts in the development, knowledge transfers and furtherance of data science and analytics programmes among the MMU community, under the Center of Big Data and Blockchain Technologies, a Center of Excellence (COE) established as a collaboration with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) under the Premier Digital Tech Institutions (PDTI) initiative.

The agreement was signed by Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, the President of MMU, and Vimmy Yap, the Founding Chairman of 6Biz Academy.

The accord paved the way for both parties to collaborate in developing the skills and talent of MMU’s students and academics to better meet and exceed that of the profession and industry. Additionally, MMU and 6Biz also aim to work together to further talent and career development, and cutting edge research as well as develop strong industrial linkages, especially in Big Data, data science and analytics.

6Biz is an authorised training provider for the Certified Data Professional in Open-source Software (CDPOS™) courses in Malaysia. CDPOS™ is an international Skills Certification designed specifically for Open-source Software and is designed for certifying data literacy. Through this collaboration, 6Biz is offering training in CDPOS™ to 300 MMU students.

Mazliham expressed his pleasure over the signing, as it represented a continuation of MMU being one of the universities in Malaysia with a leading Data Science programme. “The certification pathway provided by 6Biz to MMU students further reaffirms our commitment in ensuring that the university supports the nation’s tech talent development and drive digital innovation.”

“I am very certain that this initiative will further enhance the employability of our graduates, especially with the CDPOS™ qualification”, he added.

Commenting on the agreement, Ho Chin Kuan, the Vice-President of Academic and Internationalisation, MMU, said, “The input from professional certification trainers such as 6Biz and the industry is of utmost importance to ensure the relevance of our curriculum. Today, this MoU marks another milestone in cementing MMU’s position as a Trendsetter University in producing industry-relevant data literate workforce.”

Yap said, “6Biz is very pleased to formalise our strong working partnership with MMU, as we move through challenging times in the industry. We recognize MMU as being one of the leading private educational institutions responsible for nurturing future generations of data scientists and analysts who will become leaders of the profession in our developing nation.”

“MMU, Malaysia’s first private university and prominent nurturing grounds for Malaysia’s future workforce, will benefit from its ties with 6Biz, since CDPOS™ is globally recognized.” Dato’ Vimmy Yap emphasised that “It is important for us to continue to work hand in hand with academia, in order to ensure that the pipeline of competent and data savvy professionals for the nation could be developed.”
