MMU Launches Cost Effective IOT Smart Farming Solution

Agritech is said to be the technology that can solve the future of food resources for mankind, already nations are struggling with managing this essential resource and the pandemic just accelerated the struggles even further. The good thing is we have the solutions, technology today is at a stage that can bring many of its benefits to transform traditional farming methods.

Multimedia University (MMU) the subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia has been active in this field, the university recently launched a smart IOT solution that could assist in advancing urban farming without the worry of heavy investments. Working with a private company MSD Innovation, both parties developed precision farming within the urban setup by incorporating state-of-the-art technology for optimum quality and quantity of crop production.

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, MMU President described the initiative of being in line with MMU’s mission of ‘Transforming society through innovation’. Via this collaboration the project was able to tap into the varsities research teams in the areas of IoT systems, mobile application development, artificial intelligence (AI), as well as robotics and automation.

Through this project, digital tools will be used by smart farmers to continuously monitor a wide range of metrics, including water levels, the amount of nutrients that crops need to optimally grow, soil samples, fertilizer inputs, and so on.

The cost efficient and easy to manage Smart Farming solution will enable a conducive operational conditions through the application of IoT providing resource and time savings, including heighten convenience and minimise human intervention.

Its being targeted for who are looking to add a new platform for income generation and as a useful tool to empower groups such as the youth, B40 and underserved communities.
