Beijing’s Foreign Trade Hits Record Figures As Asia’s Engine Charges Ahead

Beijing’s foreign trade hit a record high of USD219 billion (RM898 billion) in the first half of the year, up 26 percent year on year, this was reported by the city’s customs bureau.

Total exports grew 18.1 percent year on year to RM190 billion while imports increased 28.2 percent to RM730 billion. Its foreign trade in June was RM172 billion, the highest monthly figure since December 2019.

Despite the Biden administration continuing hardline on China made goods entering the capital, the January-June period trade with the United States, European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations each continued to account for over 10 percent of total trade.

As for the top import commodities imported by the city, automobiles and agricultural products toped the list respectively rising by 71.2 percent and 53.6 percent year on year.

High-tech products continued to play a significant role in terms of export, coming from mobile phones, integrated circuits, and medicines and medical materials.
