Selangor On Track For Herd Immunity Before September

With the acceleration of the vaccination program in Selangor both with the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme and the Selangor Vaccination Programme (SelVAX) in full force, the State Chief Minister is confident in achieving herd immunity by end August.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari claimed this possibility with 65.5 per cent of adults being already jabbed with the first dose (3.2 million) while 1 million with both doses, this is a stark improvement from the mere thousands in early June.

Herd immunuty is when more than 75% of the population of a certain nation or designated area are fully vaccinated. In this case Selangor will need to have close to 5 million of her population vaccinated before it can officially be declared as reaching herd immunity.

Selangor took bold steps in addressing the pandemic when it launched its own contact tracing application before the Federal Government introduced a universal mobile app for the nation and it also kicked off its a vaccination program by procuring vaccines directly from suppliers. These actions were important to oversee the states growing daily cases and vital to stem the spread in workplaces among factories which the majority are located.

The goal is made achievable with Walk-In vaccination now being implemented in Klang Valley, the state constituencies will have 12 vaccination centres available where each will be allocated 1,300 jabs a day.
