The acceleration of vaccinations under surge capacity and other quick solutions including the increase in public and private vaccination centres have resulted in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur achieving herd immunity today when the vaccination of its adult population against Covid-19 reached 85 percent.

Federal Territories Minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa, was relieved to hear the news; however, he was steadfast in saying that the work is still not done in his social media posting. The Minister stressed that his commitment to continue with efforts to help KL citizens will not slow down.

Vaccine statistics in the Federal Territory show 1.5 million or 85 percent of its population have received both doses of the vaccines, which exceeds the target of 80 percent or 1.48 million people. Those who have received the first dose now stand at 2.5 million people. FT will join Labuan, another Federal Territory state, which achieve herd immunity after 63,440 of its population completed both doses at 92 percent.

In Putrajaya, 81,543 individuals or 74 percent of its residents have completed their vaccinations compared to the set target of 88,000 people or 80 percent, while 120,984 have received the first dose.

This is welcome news for the city as it will soon be reopening much of its economic sectors for those who have been fully vaccinated.
