The GO ESG ASEAN 2021, a 2-day virtual conference organised by UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB), will take place on 24 and 25 November 2021 with the aim to ignite awareness, enable networking, identify best practices and showcase innovative approaches in sustainability investment.

Riding on the theme ACHIEVING A SUSTAINABLE ASEAN: Raising Business SDG Ambitions and Mainstreaming Sustainable Financing, this year’s summit will provide deeper insights and showcase best practice actions from ASEAN and global leaders.

“As the world pushes towards sustainability, there is a need to balance pragmatism with expectations in the context of developing economies. ASEAN’s pathway towards a sustainable future will be unlike its global counterparts, considering the differing social and economic development factors. However, this presents an opportunity for ASEAN businesses to carve a new pathway to a sustainable future by accelerating innovation and enabling a conducive sustainable financing ecosystem,” says Faroze Nadar, Executive Director of UNGCMYB.

The summit will also feature the ASEAN leg of the UN SDG Investment Forum promoting its ‘Financing the Green’ platform, which aims to share various sustainable financing opportunities in the region to expedite its transition to a green economy.

Over 2,000 participants from around the region are expected to attend GO ESG ASEAN 2021, which will present more than 30 global and regional speakers and panellists via an engaging and interactive virtual event platform.

With the aim to foster higher appreciation for sustainable development goals, November is being billed the SDG Ambition Month – and will see several other activities including a virtual exhibition and the SME SDG Festival from November 8 to 13.

This year’s GO ESG ASEAN event, which is into its second year, is already off to a good start with Sarawak Energy Bhd, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS Malaysia), Bloomberg and Bursa Malaysia Bhd weighing in as partners and speakers.

Faroze says for this year’s event, UNGCMYB is opening up its partnership to other interested sponsors and is collaborating with Malaysian communications specialist Rantau PR Sdn Bhd to engage with organisations keen to be part of the region’s foremost sustainability event.
