UTM And UPM Signs MoU With JKR

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony between the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) via the Structural Forensic Services Division, Civil and Structural Engineering Branch was held on October 14 virtually.

UTM and UPM signed the MoU with JKR in the field of Structural Forensic Engineering. Among the main proposals agreed upon in this memorandum is to establish strategic cooperation in the field of research, consultancy, and professional training in forensic engineering.

With this cooperation, UTM and UPM respectively, under the Center for Forensic Engineering (FEC) and the Department of Civil Engineering have the opportunity to share expert advisory services with JKR.

This collaboration will benefit JKR staff through exposure to the latest technology and research, in addition to the University’s involvement in practical or hands-on problem-solving.

In the field of materials testing, the diversity of laboratories at the University that span various disciplines such as the Civil Engineering Testing Unit (CETU) laboratory at UTM and the Civil Engineering Laboratory at UPM, allows research and consultation to be conducted together. This certainly gives an advantage to the government, in terms of cost and time savings.

The implementation of scientific programs is also an added value of this collaboration. Among them, knowledge sharing through the organization of seminars, short-term courses, and so on in the field of forensic engineering. This can provide an opportunity for JKR officers and the University to become speakers/facilitators or participants.

With the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), it will be able to strengthen JKR’s engineering services through the production of creative and innovative human capital as well as the latest technology, thus being able to act as a world-class service provider.
