KESM Riding On Semicon Demand In Automotive For 2022

KESM Industries Berhad known to be the world’s largest independent burn-in and test service company is expecting 2022 an interesting year as the semiconductor sector continues to be on the growth momentum.

CEO Sam Lim, who announced their 2021 performance where the group with an improved net profit of RM7.3 million, from a break-even position the year, before said the unexpected demand in many market sectors have resulted in a shortage of semiconductor components.

Moving into 2022, KESM will continue to focus on the automotive market which is a fast-growing sector in the semiconductor industry. Not only the volume of global car sales is rising, the shift to electric vehicles and eventually self-driving cars are creating higher electronic content for automotive semiconductors. He commented, “As technology shifts, demands for “burn-in and test” for Advanced Driving Assistance Systems “ADAS”, power train, infotainment will also increase. These developments are driving the need for more complex communication chips as well, beyond those used in car applications which have been one of the largest growing markets in the semiconductor industry.

The group’s 40 years of leadership, remains a critical process for its customers who are some of the world’s leading semiconductor suppliers to the automotive makers.” Test and burn-in are essential not only for cars but also for data security in protecting digital information and the growing needs for data analytics in connecting cars, smart buildings, medical records etc. The world has become more connected and we are in the midst of a global digital transformation,” explained Mr. Lim.

Leading market research firm predicts that the world-wide semiconductor industry will cross the US$500 billion mark in 2021, registering a strong growth of 26.9 percent and forecasting the revenue to exceed US$600 billion mark this year. This is astounding and will be a new record in the industry.
