Direct Flight Service To Pangkor Will Boost Tourism For Island

The Menteri Besar of Perak welcomed the launch of new daily flights directly to Pulau Pangkor from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang. Operator SKS Airways will be flying to Pangkor from the city which will take about 45 minutes compared to 3 hours driving.

Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the latest option would add to the influx of tourism in Pulau Pangkor who those who want to get there without the hassle of driving or queuing at the jetty.

SKS Airways is the latest to join the mile high club operating small propeller planes with a maximum of 19 passengers including crew, that fly directly off Subang. The encouragement of more activity in flying was mooted by the latest announcement by the Prime Minister who had said that more borders could be reopened with the aim to recover the lost tourism activity the country direly needs.

The number of tourist arrivals to Pulau Pangkor had recorded an increase starting from 52,487 people in October 2021, to 95,514 in November, and rising to 134,808 in December. This increase was through the influx of tourists during the third and fourth phases of the National Recovery Plan when interstate traveling was allowed.

Several projects were done for the island, including the recently completed waiting area at the Pangkor Jetty, new toilets and surau in Teluk Nipah as well as the development of Kampung Penyu in Teluk Ketapang, Pulau Pangkor.

Projects underway include the proposal to build a bazaar in Teluk Nipah, construction of an Arena Square, business space, and a floating restaurant in Teluk Baharu, here. These projects are expected to be completed next year.

Tourism Perak received about 100 events from various quarters to be implemented throughout the year and they have been listed in the state event calendar,” he added.
