State Agro Arm PKPS Reduces Chicken Price To RM8 From Gov Announced RM8.90

Selangor State Government through its agriculture and food arm, Perbadanan Kemajuan Pertanian Selangor (PKPS) has set the retail ceiling price standard chicken RM8.00 per kilogram as compared to what the Federal Government announced which was a reduction of RM0.20 sen to RM8.90 per kilogram.

Selangor Menteri Besar, Dato ’Seri Amirudin Shari said this initiative was launched to ensure that the people of Selangor continue to have adequate access to fresh chicken quality at an affordable price. Consumers can head to the wholesale market in Seri Kembangan and Wisma PKPS to enjoy these special rates.

In his speech at the event, Menteri Besar stated “The state government welcomes the reduction in the ceiling price of standard chicken by 20 sen to RM8.90 by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Affairs. However, the price control mechanism at premises managed by PKPS can further lower the ceiling price without any financial implications to the administration.” He said Ehsan PKPS standard chicken will be sold at RM8.00 per kilogram at two main premises namely in Selangor Wholesale Market (PBS), Seri Kembangan, and Wisma PKPS, Shah Alam.

The state is able to keep prices under management due to its control over these premises, by reducing rental rates for chicken traders the savings can be passed on to consumers. For that, he said, the state government through PKPS will allocate funds of RM1 million to run the Ehsan Food Price Intervention Program in an effort to ensure that food prices in Selangor are controlled until the festive season.

The program will cover subsidy costs, rent reduction, and assistance on strategic supply chain logistics to control the price of goods food, especially fresh produce. To start 50,000 chickens would be allocated for this campaign for a period of two weeks. Apart from chickens, quality grade eggs at a lower price will also be offered by using the same price control method.

PKPS Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi added his agency is actively implementing such programs for the people of Selangor to benefit from assets owned by PKPS. Among the most important assets are PBS, Selangor Fruit Valley, and Ladang Ayam PKPS which is able to produce 540,000 chickens per session.

In order to keep a tab on supply and ensure everyone gets to enjoy the subsidy, consumers are limited to two chicken per purchase.
