The Agricultural Commodity Industry Offers Great Opportunities; Zuraida

Local agri-commodity industry participants need to take advantage of the global market of about US $ 756 billion (RM3.19 trillion), to position Malaysia as the world’s leading exporter.

Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, said, in turn, drive Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“With this market opportunity, it opens up space for local players to generate income for the country and increase GDP,” he told the media after completing the pre-launch of the Malaysia International Agricultural Commodity Expo and Summit (MIACES 2022) here today.

Also present were the Chairman of the National Rubber Council (MRC), Dr Daroyah Alwi; Chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC), Larry Sng; Chairman of the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC), Norrida Yusoff; and MRC Chief Executive Officer, Nor Hizwan Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Zuraida said, MIACES 2022 which took place from July 26 to 28 opened up opportunities for industry participants to expand product exports to new markets.

She said the three-day event was an important platform in proving the ability and quality of the product to explore the wider overseas market.

“Through MIACES 2022, local agri-commodity participants have the opportunity to showcase their respective products, as well as meet with foreign participants, which in turn opens up space for cooperation.

“A number of delegates from 15 countries have already agreed to participate in the event,” she said.

She said MIACES 2022 was also expected to see the participation of five ministers from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Iran, thus opening the way for comprehensive discussions in empowering Malaysian industry.

“MIACES 2022 is also an important platform for us to combat prejudice from the United States (US) and the European Union (EU) to Malaysian products,” she said.
