DRB Hicom In Collaboration With Geely In Developing The Automotive HiTech Valley

DRB-HICOM is working with Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. to develop and promote the Automotive HiTech Valley which was launched by the Prime Minister recently.

The AHTV is aimed to be the Next Generation Vehicle Hub in Tanjong Malim covering an extensive automotive and mobility solutions value chain from a full-fledged high technology research & development centre, to a manufacturing cluster as well as supporting services and associated ecosystem including logistics, research university, training and learning institutions within a smart city, collectively known as the “Proposed Strategic Collaboration”.

Geely, which is being roped in as the strategic partner is a global mobility technology group headquartered in the city of Hangzhou in south-east China’s Zhejiang Province. It owns and manages a number of brands including Geely Auto, Lynk & Co, ZEEKR, Geometry, Volvo Cars and Polestar. It has been developing cutting-edge technologies in new energy, shared mobility, vehicle networks, autonomous driving, onboard chips, low-orbit satellites, and laser communication, to embrace the upcoming multi-dimensional mobility ecology. The group is committed to a sustainable development strategy that seeks to develop in tandem with its upstream and downstream partners, transform and improve the global automotive industry, and create a mobility experience that exceeds expectations.

DRB says the strategic cooperation will add value to it as this will become a strategic platform for both parties to explore means of collaborating towards the establishment of an “Automotive City”, that can bring extended multiplier effects through the set-up of an automotive industry cluster in Tanjong Malim attracting investors and vendors from China and from other parts of the world.

Among the intentions anticipated for the automotive hub is to attract vendors and investors here, to develop an R&D centre; including a National Automotive Testing Centre; Explore to establishing a Research Institute/University in AHTV; Develop AHTV as Smart City.

The project also seeks to establish a “Two Countries, Twin Park” under Malaysia-China joint development framework mechanism and to strive for support including but not limited to policy, finance, and taxation.
